The Month of Thanksgiving – Thirteen

Today we are thankful for our new yearling ram, Aragorn!
He is a registered Border Leicester from Sara Beamer’s flock. We think he is a beauty… it’s all about that Roman nose!
The Naming Shepherdess is especially thankful for Aragorn, as this opens up a whole new chapter in the Naming Book. (…thinking Galadriel, Eowyn, Elwing, Celebrian and of course, Arwen).

The Month of Thanksgiving – Day 11

Daddy in Belgium, World War II

Poppy, World War I
Today we give a most hearty thanks for the service of our husbands, cousins, uncles, father and grandfathers in the Armed Forces. During World War II, our father, his two brothers, his brother-in-law and several beloved cousins were in the Armed Forces. We often wonder how this close-knit farming community coped. Day-to-day work on the farm had to be very difficult with a whole generation gone off to war. We imagine our Grandmother Lena placing service stars in the windows of the farm house; imagine both she and Poppy Ray growing older with worry…Please thank the veterans for the sacrifices they and their families have made. Say Thank You to the veterans in your life today!

The Month of Thanksgiving – Day Nine

We are full of thanks for our new fence.

It has provided us with much needed additional pasture. One of the greatest advantages, is that this year we have the ability to have a large, sturdy, electrified fence between the breeding ewes and rams. We are pretty confident that this is going to eliminate the problem of spring ‘accidents’.

Still, in spite of everything, there is a whole lot of fenceline courting going on.
