All winter long, the shepherdess/s have been attempting to catch some photos of the cardinals at the feeders.  Many times there have been wonderful opportunities, but no camera within reach.  This fella sat, waiting patiently, in a tree right outside the kitchen window, a watchful eye on the feeder full of sunflower seeds.  He waited until the shepherdess tired of her perch on the step ladder and moved on to her chores, then he quickly flew down and sat happily munching away.

Our girl, Bertha, has received a lot of Flickr love this week.  She has been described almost perfectly by one of our Flickr friends ~  “like a rough and tumble child with bits of the wild in her hair”.  This is another shot just moments after her pasture greeting.  She is a beauty and looks even more beautiful in a winter landscape.  We’re hoping she’s growing one or two equally beautiful lambs 🙂

Much of the Same

This post has been in the works all week, and we’ve really struggled to get it done.  We had one almost spring-like day, but much of the week has looked like this.  Much like Bella, we’ve been plodding along.  The bred ewes are devouring 200 – 250 pounds of hay a day, cleaning up every last, little bit.  The hogget ewes are growing out and have been very entertaining of late when we arrive to feed.  Running through the snow, jumping up and down, they bring a smile and sometimes we can’t help but laugh out loud.  And, of course that brings us to the barn cats.  They are always eager to provide entertainment.   The latest toy has been a discarded box that has received so much cat love, we’re reluctant to throw it away.
Hope you’re having a wonderful morning, and not digging out from under too much snow.

Approaching the big turn at Bellview, it was such a treat to catch the sunshine breaking through for a moment.  The way it illuminated the side of the mountain and the frosted pines made our hearts swell.  This county road twists and turns, up and down, and in just a few minutes we were travelling a few yards below those frosted pine trees… following the road as it winds towards home.
